- Is the seller on Rockwell's authorized distributor list? If not, why are they cheaper?
- Can the seller provide the exact firmware revision, and will they support it if your software can't connect?
- Is there a warranty that covers field failure, or are you on your own after payment?
- Does the unit have a valid serial number registered with Rockwell Automation? You'd be surprised how often this is ignored.
This checklist isn't complicated. It's a half-page of reminders. In the last 18 months, we've used it to avoid 47 potential purchasing mistakes—no, maybe 46, one slipped through last week and I'm still annoyed.
The same logic applies to other panel components. When someone asks us where to buy AC contactors, I always say: buy from a distributor that can provide factory support. A contactor that fails costs you the same downtime whether it was $40 or $90. And if you get a counterfeit, you might also get a fire.
